A Betta Life

Had lots of fun messing with halftones on this one as you can tell. I think about 80% of the coloring was done with them. Coloring this way just adds that texture and toning I’m looking for with my illustration work these days without using too many individual colors. I only used 5 colors including the black line art in the process of coloring this illustration. It was an entertaining challenge for me and I hope you enjoy it.

Dedicated to the one that got away.

I started this piece at the Boston Comic Con. As you can see it spiraled into a larger project than I intended when I was just sketching at our table.

Prints will be available at Granitecon this weekend. I’m also thinking of doing a halftone tutorial based on this piece.
